1. It starts with the décor

Whether you’re a serial snoozer or a glorious morning whistler, your bedroom is the first thing you see at the start of a new day. Waking up to a space that speaks to your soul is the best way to set yourself up for success.

All great decorating projects start with a décor choice. This will help you to visualise what kind of room you want, and all your other decisions will flow from this. If you’re a modern minimalist, you might want simple and sleek furniture. If you’re more of a classic traditionalist, you could choose decadent details to match.

Looking for some inspiration to get you started? How to start a decorating project will help you get set up, and we’ve got plenty of interior design and decorating ideas to inspire you.

2. Experiment with your bedroom colours

There’s a reason why we talk about getting out the wrong side of the bed, and waking up in a bedroom that doesn’t give you good vibes is bound to throw you off. Selecting a colour palette that sets the right mood is a key component in your dream bedroom.

Pastel colours can be calming when you’ve had a long day, think pale greys, blues, or pinks for a gorgeous soft feel. Don’t be scared of brighter colours too, a rich forest green can inject some vibrancy into your space, perfect for the get up and go you need. A sophisticated charcoal is right on trend if you’re looking for something modern.

Choose a decorating style that works for you - and make it come to life! Finding your own unique style can take time, especially if you sway towards a lot of dif ferent looks. From eclectic, boho bedrooms to over-the-top maximalism, we've got plenty of ideas to inspire you.

4. Maximise space with bedroom storage

Every bedroom needs storage. From wardrobes to chest of drawers and bedside tables – we need somewhere to keep all our clothes, accessories, and trinkets. Luckily for you, we’ve got a huge range of freestanding furniture for your bedroom.

Sometimes “one size fits all” bedroom furniture just doesn’t do the job, and we totally get it. Whether you’re a coat collector, hat hoarder or serial shoe shopper – we can help you design your wardrobe or shelving unit to fit your needs. With modular furniture you can build your fixtures to match your storage and style demands.

5. Shine bright with bedroom lighting

Bedrooms have to go from giving you a morning burst of energy to lulling you into sweet dreams in a matter of hours. Lighting sounds like a small detail, but it’s the key to this day to night transformation.

A bedside lamp is the ideal choice for those cosy evenings. When you want to wrap yourself up in a duvet with your favourite book, you’ll want a softer glow to help you relax. For more tips and inspiration, take a look at our bedroom lighting ideas.

6. Add some greenery with bedroom plants

Want to add some serenity to your bedroom? House plants have a never-ending list of benefits. Not only do they look gorgeous – but they’re great for the mind, body, and soul too.

Peace lilies can purify the air by removing toxins and dust (so you can have a deeper, more relaxing slumber). Snake plants pump oxygen around the room, helping you to breathe better, plus they’re almost impossible to kill. We’ve heard rumours that Chinese money plants can bring wealth and prosperity – we’re not banking on it, but they do look cute on a bed side table.

7. The finishing touches

Finishing touches are the icing on the cake, without them it’s just not quite home. Cushions, candles, rugs, or art are the little features that tell your story. It could be framed family photos that bring back memories of laughter, or a blanket that you can wrap yourself in and shut out the chaos of the world. Layer soft and fluffy scatter cushions along the top of your bed or place one on the chair in the corner or your room. Wall hangings, ornaments, and art can bring a touch of elegance without breaking the bank. Think about what you need and how it’ll make you feel, because after all, your bedroom is all about you.
