Looking to spruce up your space with new blinds? You’re in the right place! But before you get too excited about shopping, let's talk measurements. Don’t worry; we’re here to help. Here’s your guide for measuring your windows for blinds.

Step 1: Choose your blind type

Step 2: Measure for your blinds

Step 1: Measure the width of your window

Let’s kick things off by measuring the width:

For inside-mounted blinds, measure the width at the top, middle, and bottom of the window. This helps you catch any sneaky variations in your window width. The smallest of the three will be your width measurement.

Pro tip: Subtract 0.5 cm from your smallest measurement to prevent the blinds from rubbing against the frame. Be sure to check the fitting instructions for your blinds, as you’ll also need to account for the size of the brackets or fitting mechanism.

Step 2: Measure the height of your window

Next, let’s tackle the height:

Measure at three points: Check the left, centre, and right sides of the window. This helps you catch any height discrepancies. The tallest measurement will be your length. This ensures your blinds cover the entire window. Pro tip: Subtract 1 cm from your height measurement to ensure the blinds sit just above the window sill.

Step 1: Measure the width of your window

For outside-mounted blinds, grab your tape measure and measure the overall width of the window recess. Do this three times, once from the top, middle, and bottom of the window. Note down the smallest of the three measurements. Once you've got this, add an extra 5 cm on each side to prevent light from sneaking in around the edges.

Step 2: Measure the height of your window

Now let’s get the height just right:

Start from the top: Measure from where you want the blind rail to sit (at least 5 cm above the recess) down to where you want the bottom of your blind to finish (at least 5 cm below the window sill). This helps keep any light from peeking through. To ensure accuracy, measure three times - once on the left side, the middle and the right side – this is to cater for any height discrepancies. Take the longest measurement.
