Saved a lot of time and money

I bought this product instead of Polycell Smooth Over to use on walls and this product seemed to be much easier to use. You have to work in small areas very quickly as it dries out fast but creates a good finish and was ready to paint after one coat. I would definitely use again and recommend on walls with small imperfections to cover. The tool also has rounded ends so you don't get lines too.

Love it!

We estimated we were facing at least £600+ Plasterer bill to skim our hall, stairwell and landing walls. Walls had an old fashioned "artex" type , swirly , raised paint effect and was ugly!! Saw this product and bought the 2.5l tub just to try it out. Worked like a dream and so went back and bought 2x of the larger tubs to complete the job. Totally thrilled with the results. Tips: Used a short pile roller on a mini roller. Load the roller really well and work in small patches at a time 1m sq. Take your time until you get the hang of holding the blade at the right angle and being in the right position to sweep in one single move. Keep an eye on the consistency, stir as often as necessary so that it stays creamy, much easier to apply. Overall, one of the best DIY products I've used for years. We've got great smooth walls, ready to paint and saved ourselves loads of money :-)

doesn't do what it says on the tin

Bought this to cover rough walls and ceiling expecting a paintable, smooth finish after only 1 coat. Found the product nearly impossible to apply with a roller (not supplied). Wouldn't go on thick enough to allow smoothing tool to glide over easily. I decided to apply one thin coat and go over again, hoping the second coat would go on easier but I ran out of product. Now have to decide whether to buy another (bigger) tub and pray or rethink completely. Read a review where someone used a trowel with this but to be honest if I knew how to do that I'd just use normal plaster.

Roneal smooth and repair

I was very impressed with this product, some of the aertex on the ceiling had come loose and had to be removed, leaving the ceiling looking a right mess,it was easy to put on with a trowel and stayed put being it had to put on quite thick in places, the finish was very good, not smooth ,had to match the remaining aertex, but could have left a smooth finish if required.

Once coming to the conclusion that using a roller with this product is just a silly idea (which took less than thirty seconds) & instead opted for a wallpaper stripping knife & the provided applicator, it was a joy to use & went on beatifully. As long as you've a drop of common sense & or practical ability you should have no issuse with this product.

Does exactly what it says on the tin

I just used this product as a last ditch attempt before calling in a plaster/ papering with inch thick paper over the offending area. I'm a complete DIY numpty. I followed the insructions, used the tool supplied, I did need a second application to fill out some dodgy areas but am now left with a flat paintable surface. Exactly what I wanted to acheive and exactly what is says on the tin. It does take a bit of time and patience such as repeated attempts to load the roller to apply the mixture and I used a wallpaper scraper to apply it to areas too tight for the roller but the smoothing tool did the job fine. I had a few drag marks from bits of stuff I hadn't cleaned away and a few holes/ rough areas on the first coat. I left what I had done, the majoirty of which was smooth, to dry. Then the second coat filled in the remaining areas with no problems. I did also wet the smoothing tool which I think helped get a nice finish. I'd happily use this again.

Is this value for money?

Not a value for money product for the average DIYer. It consists of a small bucket of plaster; a wiper blade of the type used for cleaning household windows and a couple of irrelevant gadgets, the last 3 housed in an elaborate and non-cost effective additional lid. According to the instructions one cleans the wall (did it) applies the product with a roller (not supplied) and wipes it flat with the blade, not unlike the practice of a trained plasterer. Why then are my walls, even the flat parts, patchy and bumpy and corrugated? For anyone who has any skill in plastering doing it the old-fashioned way is better and for anyone without these skills I would recommend avoiding this product. I wasted £32

DOES WHAT IT SAYS ON THE TIN

VERY GOOD PRODUCT. SMOOTHED MY UNEVEN OLD PLASTERED WALLS. I THINK A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE TRYING TO SMOOTH ARTEX CEILINGS WITH THIS PRODUCT. SO SIMPLE TO USE AND SAND. FOR SMALL (5mm DEEP MAX) HOLES AND LOWS IN WALLS ITS IDEAL! WELL WORTH THE MONEY.

Gutted!

I agree with the opinion above... Just spent £30 on this and done one coat so far. Hasn't improved the surface at all, maybe even made it worse. Have come on here to find advice on product and am gutted to see that its not me its the product. As last person said tools are rubbish and product rubbish. Would have been cheaper alternative to have replaced the ceiling after having not worked and needing to buy another superior product after to finish the job!

Not fit for purpose

This product gives nothing like the coverage proposed and the tools supplied are unsuitable for the job. It would take a long time and a lot of tubs of the stuff to get anything approaching a smooth finish to even a lightly textured surface.
