Socket tester
I bought this to check some kitchen electrical outlets in a newly-purchased house. It correctly identified three plug sockets that were missing earth connections. I used it throughout the house after this. The potential for an electrical accident was clearly very high in a kitchen where water & conductive surfaces are all near at hand. I would heartily recommend this easy-to-use tester to anybody buying a house from a DIY electrician. The importance of a professional electrical check when entering a new property cannot be over-emphasised.

Handy thing to have
I'm currently in the process of re-wiring my house and brought this socket tester to obviously test the sockets. Every socket I've tested has been ok thankfully. The 3 ring mains I have wired in are all on a RCD protected circuit and this tester hasn't tripped it once, so I'm not sure if the other reviewer had a faulty unit. 5 stars from me.

Useless
When I plugged this into a 13A socket to start testing this promptly caused the RCD in the consumer unit to trip. I have since found a number of internet postings saying that this is not uncommon with these low cost type testers. I returned the product for a refund.
