While most pumps have a foam inside to help protect the pump and catch particles and debris, this foam can be small and may not catch all. Using a large prefilter foam cube attached to the inlet of the pump, creates a larger surface area that will catch all debris and unhealthy toxins. Being large, the sponge creates more space for beneficial bacteria to colonise and then feed on the toxins and nutrients that can make pond water dirty, cloudy and unhealthy.
