Product information

Fatsia japonica, is better known as the Paperplant or Castor Oil Plant and is famed for its glossy evergreen leaves. Hardy in UK gardens, it will also thrive as a houseplant, where you can enjoy its glossy good looks in your home all year! The striking, architectural leaves have a high sheen, giving a lush, tropical feel to the conservatory or any bright spot indoors. As a plus, clusters of globular, white flowers appear in autumn, followed by round, black fruits. Height and spread: 2m (78").

Sow Fatsia seed on the surface of a good free-draining, damp seed compost and lightly cover the seed with vermiculite. Place in a propagator or seal the seed tray inside a polythene bag, maintaining a temperature of 18-24C (65-75F) until after germination which usually takes 14-21 days. Do not exclude light as this helps germination.

Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle, taking care not to damage the fragile roots, into 7.5cm (3in) pots. As roots fill the pot, move to the next size.

Please note: some houseplants are toxic or harmful to pets if ingested. If you believe your pet has consumed a poisonous plant then seek veterinary attention immediately. Take a sample of the plant with you.
